ECONOMIC OUTLOOK

Paul Ferley, assistant chief economist at Royal Bank of Canada, speaks on the outlook for the US and Canadian economies, and the impact of China on Wednesday in Markham. He said that expanded growth among advanced economies in 2014 is expected to be relatively broad based, and economic growth among emerging economies will be more restrained as a result of moderating growth in China.

PAINTING COLLECTIONS

Rev Dayi Shi, president of the Buddhist Association of Canada, shows the painting works of Chinese folklore presented by Chinese Contemporary calligraphers. More than 50 painting works, Buddhist fi gures and traditional artifacts will be showcased at the fi rst Buddhist Culture and Shuilu Fahui Festival to be held at Cham Shan Temple during July 7-13.

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN

"The Magnifi cent Seven" sang at the 2014 Sing for Your Heart Gala on May 24 in Markham. The group led by Dr. Andrew Chung (center) consists of Chinese-Canadian doctors. They presented three all-time favorite songs, Seven Da$ odils, Happy Together and This Land Is Your Land.

FOLK DANCE

Dancers play the Chinese Miao folk dance at the 2014 Sing for Your Heart Gala hosted by the Chinese Canadian Council of the Heart and Stroke Foundation on May 24 at the Hilton Suites Markham Conference Centre. The sampling of food from all over China was part of the gala's China 360°tradition. Yunnan was chosen as the highlighted province of this year's gala.

LION POLE DANCE

Audiences enjoy the Lion Pole Dance performance on Monday in Niagara Falls. The high-pole lion dance presented by the Foshan Nanhai Huang Fei Hong Lion Dragon & Martial Art Association is considered a unique technique in China. The show was organized by the Nanhai District Bureau of Foreign & Overseas Chinese Affairs, Foshan, China, and the Cross-Cultural Community Services Association.

LUCKY GIFTS

Children show their gifts of Chinese Lion offered by the Foshan Nanhai Huang Fei Hong Lion Dragon & Martial Art Association after the Lion Dance show in Niagara Falls on Monday. The Foshan Nanhai lion dance is a cultural activity combined with martial arts, dance and music.
