The National Bureau of Statistics has released a bulletin about the findings of the third national agricultural census. The census held every 10 years took about three years to complete, and will provide information for the government's work on agriculture, rural areas and farmers, as well as the implementation of the national rural rejuvenation strategy.
It provides the latest data on China's agriculture, rural areas and farmers, and shows the changes that have taken place over the last decade.
According to the census, the number of China's villages and towns has declined by 8.1 percent over the past 10 years. But the infrastructure in rural areas such as water, electricity, road and housing has improved remarkably. About 110 million rural households enjoy purified running water, which accounts for 47.7 percent of overall rural households nationwide, and more than 70 percent of village roads are paved with concrete, and about 90 percent of villages have access to broadband internet.
By the end of 2016, 99.5 percent of rural households had their own property.
