5. Dispute: Jerusalem

US President Donald Trump's decision on Dec 6 to formally recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to move the US embassy there sparked protests and condemnation around the world, causing several deaths and thousands of injuries in the disputed territories.

Although the UN has adopted a resolution that will give Trump's decision have no legal effect, Israel seems likely to use this opportunity to break new ground by discussing "moving the embassy" matter with more than 10 countries.

It is dangerous if new variables appear in 2018 that will affect the Middle East's peace process.
