Aside from supportive government policies, there were about 731 million Chinese — or nearly twice the entire American population — using internet.

"More data means more opportunities," Lu said, as data-driven algorithms will deliver the AI to transform cities and lives.

President of Microsoft Asia Ralph Haupter said that in 2018 AI "will start to become mainstream and begin to impact many aspects of our lives in a truly ubiquitous and meaningful way."
