Second son will be fifth in line to the throne

The Duchess of Cambridge has given birth to a baby boy, who will be the fifth in line to the British throne, Kensington Palace has announced on Monday.

The boy, a brother for Prince George and Princess Charlotte, was born in the Lindo Wing of London’s St Mary’s Hospital on Monday at 11:01 am, weighing 8lb 7oz (3.8 kg), after the duchess went into labor earlier in the morning.

His royal title will be HRH Prince of Cambridge and he is the queen’s sixth great-grandchild. An official announcement from Kensington Palace said his father, the Duke of Cambridge, was present for the birth, and the duchess and her new son were both “doing well”.

The announcement continued that “the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news”.
