In an attempt to develop new economy and build a modernized economic system, an economic forum was held in China's southwestern city Chengdu to inject new ideas and inspiration for the regional economic growth.

Billed "Along Xinglong Lake, New Economic Development Forum", the event drew more than a hundred participants, including industrial experts, scholars and business leaders.

Topics discussed included new global economic development trends, new economic growth innovation modes, industrial upgrading and transformation, as well as the health ecology in the era of artificial intelligence.

Zhu Zhihong, Chengdu's deputy Party secretary, said at the forum that "National health coverage is an important guarantee for building a well-off society and in Chengdu talent availability and loyalty are ensured to some extent.

"Thanks to Chengdu residents' pioneering consumption concepts, it creates a market for new technology and new business modes to harness and in turn stimulates new economic development," Zhu said.

As China's economic development has entered a key period of "new normal", which requires overall improvement of quality and efficiency, it is essential for the central and regional governments to find innovative approaches to drive the economic growth.

Speaking at the forum, Yao Yang, president of National School of Development at Peking University and director of China Center for Economic Research, cited the example of ZTE incident to give his view on China’s hi-tech development strategy.

Yao said, the ZTE incident sounded an alarm to China and China has to develop key technologies through its own efforts.
