Tony Siqi Yun: A rising star creates classic passion on black and white keys

Strong wings given by two schools

In 2011, the young pianist began studying piano at the Middle School Affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music, and as a student at Dulwich College Beijing.

"Academic study is very important to music learning, I don’t want to give it up due to piano," said Yun, whose sister went to Dulwich Beijing first.

Many young students of the arts in China have to leave other classes behind, and even give them up to fully focus on the arts, because their energy, time and school rules don’t allow them to give the same amount of effort to regular academic studies at the same time.

However, Yun received the full support of Dulwich Beijing, which became a strong supporter while he studied piano at the Middle School Affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music.

Sometimes, the teenager had to miss classes at Dulwich due to piano lessons or performances every two or three days. But he did not need to worry about lagging behind.

"One of my Dulwich instructors even helped me take notes in my missed classes," Yun added.
