China hopes to maintain communication and cooperation with the United States under the framework of the United Nations, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said on Wednesday.

Lu made the remarks in a daily news conference after US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he had accepted the resignation of UN Ambassador Nikki Haley.

Haley had, as the US ambassador to the UN, maintained dialogues and cooperation with China on many issues, Lu said.

China and the US, both permanent members of the UN Security Council, share important responsibilities to safeguard international peace and security, Lu added.
