At a recent national meeting on the special campaign to crack down on mafia-like gangs and evil forces it was decided that it should focus on a parachute pullout-removing the protective umbrellas-of the gangs and evil forces, in order to thoroughly eliminate them.

The work on removing such protective umbrellas has made great progress since the beginning of this special campaign. For instance, Hubei province has investigated 270 cases involving the protective umbrellas for illegal activities and seriously dealt with 207 people involved in such cases. In Henan province 178 civil servants have been dealt with, and Guangdong province has filed two cases involving department level officials and 36 cases involving section level officials who were providing an umbrellas of protection for criminals.

The special campaign against gangs and evil forces was launched in January, and the first round of supervisory work of the central government's crack down on gangs and evil forces has been fully under way since July.
