Former WTO head: China joining WTO a boon for world
This year, 2021, marks the 20th anniversary of China joining the World Trade Organization. Talking to Wang Huiyao, founder and president of the Center for China & Globalization, two experts said China has made great contributions to the world in the past 20 years.
Wendy Cutler, vice president of Asian Society Policy Institute and former acting deputy US Trade Representative, said she believes it was right of the United States at that time to support China's accession to the WTO. China has made progress in opening-up and that has benefited the international trading environment, she said.
Pascal Lamy, former director-general of the WTO and chair of the Paris Peace Forum, said looking at data and other facts of China’s development, people will realize that China contributed to the global economy after joining the WTO.
