Overseas exhibits arriving for Hainan expo
The first batch of overseas exhibits cleared customs inspection at Haikou Meilan International Airport on Wednesday and will be prepared for exhibition at the second China International Consumer Products Expo, also known as the Hainan Expo, according to customs officials.
Sent from Thailand, Vietnam, Japan and China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the exhibits — mainly cosmetics, perfume, snacks and wine — will be stored at the Haikou Integrated Free Trade Zone until they are transported to the main venue of the expo, the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center in Haikou, Hainan province.
The date of the 2022 Hainan Expo has not been finalized because of COVID-19 pandemic concerns, organizers said.
China launched the event, which highlights high-end consumer products, in May of last year, aiming to build a platform promoting high-level opening-up and global consumption of high-quality products, officials at the Ministry of Commerce said. The ministry jointly hosts the annual event with the Hainan provincial government.
A total of 70 countries and regions attended the first expo, which attracted 2,628 brands from home and abroad.
The second expo — themed "Share open opportunities, co-create a better life" — will occupy 100,000 square meters, 80 percent of which will be dedicated to international exhibitors featuring fashion, jewelry, food, medicine and other professional services, organizers said.
