A digitization project for the Mati Temple in Zhangye, Northwest China's Gansu province, providing for the high-fidelity preservation of its grottoes was recently completed, according to the city's cultural relics preservation office.
Launched in June 2021 with a subsidy of 3.89 million yuan ($551,000) from the central government, the project was set up to collect digital information of the temple's surroundings, scan the murals in the grottoes, generate 3D reconstructions of the painted sculptures and caves and develop a panoramic roaming system.
