The 2024 Shanghai Half Marathon will gun off on April 21 at the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Pudong New Area, with 15,000 runners participating.
Registration for the event started on March 11 and ended on March 14, with 87,653 people signing up, the highest record in the past three years.
According to the draw results, the majority of runners are between 30 and 49 years old, and female runners account for 34 percent of the total participants. In addition, the number of runners in the 20 to 29 age group also increased.
Compared to the first edition in 2015, the number of participants this year has increased from 5,000 to 15,000.
Considering the capacity at the starting point and the comfort of the runners, the event will set three starting times at 7 am, 7:05 am and 7:10 am, respectively.
With a total distance of 21.0975 kilometers, this year's route covers scenic spots, including the Lujiazui area, the 2010 World Expo site and the New Bund (Qiantan Area), ending at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center on Yongyao Road.
Supply stations along the track have also been prepared, with water stations set up starting from three kilometers, and energy supply stations set up at 10 kilometers, 12.5 kilometers, 17.5 kilometers and 20 kilometers of the track. Cooling stations will also be set up.
After last year's race, the Shanghai Half Marathon was awarded the Gold Label Road Race by the World Athletics, making Shanghai the only city in the world, apart from Valencia, Brazil, to have both a Platinum Label Road Race - Shanghai Marathon - and a Gold Label Road Race.
