International students engage in dragon boat race
During the recent Dragon Boat Festival, Wuhan University of Science and Technology in Hubei province hosted a vibrant friendship dragon boat race at Qinhu Lake, a cherished tradition of the university that attracted a diverse array of international students.
Part of a rich tapestry of cultural events celebrating the festival, the race served as a focal point, drawing enthusiastic participation from students worldwide.
Anshrah Yousafzai from Pakistan shared her excitement, highlighting the engaging activities such as zongzi (glutinous rice dumplings) making and the opportunity to don traditional Chinese hanfu dresses for reciting holiday poems. Yousafzai further expressed delight in partaking in various games and emerging victorious with a trove of prizes.
Zhang Jianwei, a senior official at the university's international education institute, emphasized the significance of such traditional cultural activities in breathing life into the university's cultural heritage. By providing international students with immersive experiences in traditional Chinese culture, the university strives to transport them back in time to ancient China, enabling them to intimately engage with and appreciate the essence of the country's rich traditions.
