BEIJING - China's housing authority has ordered local governments to check whether policies on affordable housing have been implemented.

The checks will mainly track to what extent the allocated government funds have gone into the building projects and whether the policies on land and taxes have been implemented, according to a notice from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD) released Friday.

The results must be reported to the MOHURD and the Ministry of Supervision by July 31 and further checks will be made in September by the two ministries, the notice said.

According to the notice, local governments are required to establish affordable housing databases so the projects can be effectively monitored.

The State Council, or Cabinet, on Tuesday urged more support for affordable housing construction while continuing government tightenings on the property market.
