China's police and finance institutions have maintained an ongoing crackdown on fake notes. The amount of counterfeit money confiscated has increased by more than 25 percent every year since 2012, and last year's total was 532 million yuan.

Driven by huge profits, the fake currency approximates verisimilitude. However, it cannot deceive an expert's eye.

Here are some ways to identify fake currency notes.
