Taxi drivers in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality will be required to speak putonghua (standard Mandarin Chinese) instead of Chongqing dialect, and those who disobey the rule will be fined 20 yuan ($3) up to 100 ($15.2) yuan, Chongqing Evening News reported Thursday.
The rule, taking effect on April 1, is part of the Management on Drivers, which was issued by the local government on Thursday.
The management also states that cab drivers will also be fined if caught driving a dirty cab or keeping items left behind by passengers. Also, they are banned from smoking in cars and taking the long way.
