Starting on Jan 1, 2011, children of farmers and herdsmen in Tibet began to enjoy the "three guarantees" policy, a preferential policy the central government has granted to Tibet.
The "three guarantees" means guaranteed food, guaranteed clothing, and guaranteed housing.
Since 1985, Tibet has implemented the policy in boarding schools and has improved the "three guarantees" funding standard eight times.
The subsidy standard will be raised from 1,800 yuan per student to 2,000 yuan.
All the children of farmers and herdsmen who are in compulsory and secondary education stages will be covered by the policy.
Meanwhile, certain groups of children in cities, including orphans, children of soldiers killed in the line of duty, and children of low-income homes, will also be subsidized.
In 2011, 1 billion yuan will be used to implement the "three guarantees" for children of farmers and herdsmen, and 10.4 million yuan will be used to finance children in cities.
