Little Huang has big reach

Huang Rufang, who was born with osteogenesis imperfecta, or brittle bone disease, walks through a subway gate on his way to work in Beijing on April 6, 2011. Huang's 1-meter height may look brawny in a crowd of people, but an unexpected cough or warm hug can break his bones. People with brittle bone disease carry a big risk of fractures, because of a deficiency in collagen, and usually are called "porcelain people." Huang, though he is one such sufferer, is more of a helper to people with this disease. Huang graduated from Zhejiang University and was able to get a decent job. But in 2007, he quit his job and came to Beijing to set up the Porcelain Persons Aid Association. In 2008, Huang held an art show themed, "caring more for the porcelain persons," which raised about 100,000 yuan ($14,869) and kicked off his helping tour. Huang is now a chief editor of Porcelain Persons Magazine, and at the same time reaches out to more porcelain people through his foundation, hotline, website forum and instant message system. Huang has a manly and tough soul and is often called "big brother." He said he hopes every porcelain person can have a bright future. [Photo/Xinhua]
