BEIJING - China and Fiji agreed to strengthen their cooperation in law enforcement as security officials from both countries met in Beijing Monday.

China's Public Security Minister Meng Jianzhu said Chinese and Fijian police forces have enjoyed increasing cooperation in recent years, as China and Fiji continue to develop their political and economic relationship.

He told Joketani Cokanasiga, Fiji's Acting Minister for Defense, National Security and Immigration, that the two ministries should have closer coordination and contribute more to their respective security interests.

Cokanasiga thanked China's Public Security Ministry for its support in fields including exchange programs and personnel training, saying Fiji will work with China to promote pragmatic cooperation in the area of law enforcement.

The two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding concerning their cooperation after the meeting.
