BEIJING - A senior Chinese official on Wednesday urged developed nations to provide more technology and financial support for developing countries to jointly address climate change issues.
International cooperation is crucial to tackling climate change and promoting low-carbon development is a common task for all countries, Xie said at a three-day international conference currently being held in Beijing.
The conference is focused on addressing climate change and developing low-carbon economies.
Developed countries have strong economies and advanced low-carbon technologies, while developing countries have neither of these things, Xie said.
Xie noted that technological innovation in the field of low-carbon economics must be guaranteed by the protection of intellectual property rights (IPR). But he also stressed that the issue of IPR protection should not be used to hinder technology transfer.
The conference, which opened on Wednesday, has attracted more than 300 representatives from 30 international organizations and 10 countries and regions.
