The State Administration of Work Safety said late Saturday that local governments and work safety departments must make intensified efforts in preventing major deadly accidents.

The government agency made the requirement after the frequent occurrence of big accidents since the beginning of July.

On early Friday morning, forty-one people died and six others were injured after an overloaded bus caught fire in Xinyang City, central Henan Province, the deadliest bus accident in years.

The government agency urged local departments to check for safety hazards, strike against illegal production and construction, while improving emergency response measures and rescue capacities.
