A letter addressed to volunteers in Universiade Shenzhen 2011: You make the city more beautiful.

Dear volunteers,

How are you? As the 26th World University Games approaches, people in the city are working hard to hold a wonderful Universiade, enhancing the beauty of the city and constructing a happy homeland. The volunteers’ smiles accompanying their efforts are shining brightly everywhere in Shenzhen.

You braved the summer heat in the stadium, the U station, the subway and in the community to work hard to provide a spirit of selfless dedication and enthusiasm for public welfare that has touched everyone in Shenzhen. The city Party committee and government with all the citizens appreciate your devotion!

Voluntary service comes from the heart. Your every sweet smile, warm words, dedication and service will trigger a warm soul movement. Because of you, the city is more beautiful, society more civilized and the voluntary service has become a fashionable trend thanks to you. Shenzhen is proud of you!

The upcoming Universiade is not only for athletes from around the world, but also an event that gives volunteers a chance to shine. I Hope all of you continue to promote the noble volunteer’s spirit and show off Shenzhen’s polite manner, passion, civilization and openness through the practice of serving both athletes and guests from China and other nations. You will bring new luster to the city.

If you give away a rose, the fragrance will linger on your hard. The voluntary service means dedication and sacrifice, but also experience and gain. As long as you aspire to devotion and have the courage to persist, you will enrich your bright life with cherished experiences and acquire a priceless return from this selfless offering.

On the road in the future we will accompany you as before through hardship and glory. Let the whole society gives its care and support to our volunteers; let more people participate in the voluntary service; let us construct Shenzhen as “City of Volunteers” respected and admired by others; let the young city continuously bloom out unique colors.

Wang Rong, secretary of CPC Shenzhen municipal committee

Xu Qin, mayor of Shenzhen.
