Starting Sep 1, China's foreign ministry will hold five regular press conferences each week, up from the twice-a-week tradition that has been followed for the last 16 years, reported by cnr.cn Thursday.
The change means the ministry is to hold daily press conferences during the week, Monday to Friday.
The increased frequency is due to an upgrade of the ministry's news release policy, according to Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu.
"Many media from home and abroad want to know more about China's foreign polices, and hear China's voice more often. We improved the spokesman system to adapt to the era development." he said at the ministry's regular press conference on Aug 26.
The press conferences are intended to provide a more timely and adequate provision of information.
"It's not only a growth in quantity, but more importantly in quality. We will try our best to spread China's stance and polices to our journalist friends and audience at first time, and thus make China's foreign polices better understood by the world."
