China's parliament starts annual session

BEIJING - The 11th National People's Congress (NPC), China's parliament, opened its fifth annual session Monday morning at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Premier Wen Jiabao delivered a report on the work of the government at the opening meeting, chaired by NPC Standing Committee Chairman Wu Bangguo.

Nearly 3,000 NPC deputies from across the country attended the opening meeting along with top Party and state leaders Hu Jintao, Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang.
