Drug fight faces more challenges

There is no question drugs are the scourge of society: wrecking homes, destroying families and people's lives. In 1987, the United Nations General Assembly established June 26 as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking to serve as a reminder of the need to create an international society free of drug abuse.

Some 25 years later, the struggle continues and this year's message is themed on creating a "global action for healthy communities without drugs".

China Daily online brings you our special coverage on the fight against society's biggest menace and hopes to raise the public's awareness of the issues surrounding the problem.

Ending

Despite the continued and increased effort by the international community, the world's drug problem is still in a critical condition and a major threat to people's health, especially the young.

For many years China has continued to strive to stem the flow of drugs and work with the international community to stop drug trafficking. Everyone in society should take a stand in the fight against illegal drug use.
