BEIJING - Senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Li Changchun Tuesday called for efforts to promote extensively the deeds of heroic teachers and urged the public to learn from them.
Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks while attending a stage performance for the upcoming Teachers' Day.
Li watched the show at a theater of the China Central Television (CCTV), during which he presented awards to the role model teachers.
One of the heroic teachers is Zhang Lili, a teacher who lost her legs while saving two students from an onrushing bus. Her story was depicted in a program of Tuesday's show.
The stage performance will be aired by CCTV on Teachers' Day, which falls on September 10 each year.
