A 21-year-old man has been hospitalized after spending eight days straight glued to a computer in an Internet café over the National Day holiday, Dongguan Daily reported.
At around 10 am on Monday, Hu, a staff member at the Internet café, sent the man surnamed Liang to Qiaotou Hospital in Qiaotou county, Dongguan city of Guangdong province.
"We tried to communicate with him, but he had no response at all," said a nurse in the emergency room, "The patient looks pale. He could not move or talk".
Hu said Liang arrived at the Internet cafe on Oct 1 and sat in front of a computer for eight days straight.
"For the whole National Day holiday, he barely left his seat", said Hu,
Zhang Zhaojun, the attending doctor at the emergency room, said the patient was initially diagnosed as suffering "electromagnetic field disturbance caused by exhaustion, not excluding the possibility of central nervous system lesion".
Zhang said long-term excitement can burden the body and time spent online should not exceed three hours.
Liang, a native of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, is still under treatment.
