The director of the Shenzhen Health, Population and Family Planning Commission, Jiang Hanping, is suspected of a disciplinary violation and is under investigation, according to the website of Shenzhen's discipline inspection commission.

The city's discipline inspection commission didn't reveal more details about the investigation.

According to a report in the Shenzhen-based Daily Sunshine newspaper, Jiang showed up on Friday at the opening ceremony of a culture park in a jovial mood, but on Sunday the information about the investigation was posted online.

Jiang, 55, was born in Dapu, Guangdong province, and grew up in Hunan province. He was the director of the Hengyang Central Hospital in Hunan province, and director of Nanshan District People's Hospital in Shenzhen before becoming the director of the Shenzhen Health, Population and Family Planning Commission in 2009.

Media reports speculated that Jiang is being investigated due to a case that emerged in June. At the time, more than 20 managers and directors of key public hospitals were accused of taking bribes. Some of them were sentenced to jail sentences ranging from six and a half years to 13 years in October.
