Fruit and forestry products output in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region this year is expected to top 7 million metric tons, or 35 billion yuan ($5.74 billion), contributing 1,100 yuan in per capita income to farmers.

Zhang Xiaoping, deputy secretary-general of the region's government, made the comment on Nov 7.

In some counties and cities with a relatively long history of fruit and forestry product farming, such products are generating more than half of the per capita net income of farmers.

Xinjiang ranks fifth in the country in terms of fruit and forestry product farming area.

Fruit and forestry product exports from the region are expected to hit 300,000 tons this year.

Enterprises in the region have been cooperating with e-commerce firms to promote the sale of fruit and forestry products.

Some of them have been attending a food fair in Hong Kong to explore the Hong Kong and Macao markets.

The fourth session of the Xinjiang Special Forestry and Fruit Products Exhibition will be held in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, from Nov 15 to 17.
