SHENYANG - A senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has urged governments to invite public supervision and to let the people speak the truth amid the Party's ongoing "mass-line" campaign.

Liu Yunshan, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a meeting aimed at propelling the second phase of the mass-line campaign held in Shenyang on Sunday.

Liu asked governments to encourage the public to speak the truth in raising opinions and to supervise each stage of the campaign, as the second phase of the campaign targets more lower-level authorities which possess closer links with the people.

Moreover, Liu stressed the roles of regular intra-Party discussions as an important tool to spot work style imperfections, and urged Party members to spice up such discussions so as to find real problems.

Officials from 11 provincial-level governments delivered reports at the meeting.

Launched in June 2013, the "mass-line" campaign is aimed at making the government more accessible to the public, while cleaning up undesirable work styles -- formalism, bureaucracy, hedonism and extravagance.

The second phase of the mass line campaign is scheduled to run from January to September, targeting more low-level departments and leaderships, while the first phase was focused on central and provincial-level departments.
