Longtangs refers to residential alleys in Shanghai and other cities of Eastern China, similar to the hutongs of Beijing - and they seem to reflect a more peaceful, traditional way of life, far from the stresses of urban living.
Many people are nostalgic for the more simple lifestyle that longtangs represent, and Chen Liang spent six years, from 2007 to 2013, recording everyday life in these alleys, shooting more than 60,000 photos. The following photos were taken by Chen in old longtangs in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province.
