Hong Kong police are set to help clear a key area in the heart of the city that has been occupied by Occupy Central protesters for nearly two months, according to a notice on the local government's website.

At a meeting with bailiffs on Monday, Hong Kong police said they had been preparing to help enforce the injunction against the street barricades outside the Citic Tower in Admiralty, next to government buildings, after a request from the building's owners.

Police have urged protesters to remove barricades and leave the area with private items as soon as possible.

The court has authorized bailiffs to request police assistance where necessary, and has also authorized police to arrest and remove anyone obstructing or interfering with bailiffs enforcing the terms of the injunction.
