Nguyen did not dare to go out in her first three months in China. After learning Chinese for half a year, she got her first job in September. She and three Chinese women rent a three-bedroom house for 9,000 yuan in Shanghai, which she said would cost 1,000 yuan if it were in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam.
