Hong Kong's Lunar New Year Lantern Carnivals will begin on Thursday. For 72 hours, local residents and visitors are invited to celebrate the occasion together, at this free event.

A radiant spectacle has been created at the city's Cultural Center, Tuen Mun Park, and Fanling Recreation Ground. The jovial setting at the three sites cost 2.5 million Hong Kong dollars, and organizers hope to attract tremendous crowds.

In addition to colorful and sparkling beacons, dances, opera performances, and acrobatic shows are also on the schedule. Traditional festival activities are considered special features that help attract tourists to the city. More than 660-thousand travelers have visited Hong Kong this Spring Festival, setting a new record. Planners believe an additional influx will pour in for the Lantern Festival.
