The annual Festival of Sweet Ball -- a traditional snack food in north China, is being held in the costal city of Qingdao. The edible event has attracted many people from home and abroad. Let's get a taste of what happening there.

The annual Festival of Sweet Ball -- a traditional snack food in north China, is being held in the costal city of Qingdao. 

Sweet balls are sticks of sugar-coated haws. Different kinds of sweet balls are showcased here, which enable visitors to taste a variety of this delicious snack. Children come together with their parents to participate and enjoy the fun.

"I come here every year, I take the child here to enjoy the festival."

One of the sweet ball makers has this to say.

Gao Shixiang, Sweet Ball Handicraftsman, said, "The sweet balls symbolize that people's lives will become sweeter and happier and people will live in harmony."

Many tourists make a special trip to Qingdao and learn how to make the sticks of sugar-coated haws.

Besides various kinds of sweet balls, many festive activities and folk art shows are also staged at the festival which will end on Friday. Over 20 kinds of handicraft works listed as China's intangible cultural heritage such as the rabbit doll, cloth tiger, and dough figures are available here, which enable people to experience the great charm of various folk arts.
