10 splendid museums in China
8. Maritime Silk Road Museum, Guangdong province
The Maritime Silk Road Museum in South China's Guangdong province is the world's first underwater archeology museum. Its iconic tourist attraction is a shipwreck called Nanhai No. 1 from the Song Dynasty (960-1279) that connected China with the Middle East and Europe. It was found in the mouth of the Pearl River, the starting point of China's ancient Maritime Silk Road, which is thought to contain up to 80,000 precious pieces of cargo, especially ceramics.
