Prince William and Catherine to canoe in Canada

Britain's Prince William and new wife Duchess Catherine will go canoeing when in Canada.

The royal couple are making their first official overseas visit to the country - where William's grandmother Queen Elizabeth is the head of state - from June 30 to July 8, and their official itinerary has now been released.

The pair's first official engagement is the laying of a wreath at Canada's National War Memorial in Ottowa, but they will also canoe, spend a night on a navy frigate on the St. Lawrence River and attend the Calgary Stampede - the second largest parade in the world.

Following their Canadian visit, where they will meet Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Prince William and Duchess Catherine will go to Los Angeles, where they plan to help budding British talent get a break in Hollywood.

Discussing the BAFTA Brits to Watch black tie event they will attend, their private secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton said: "We hope it will get them that big break but also that it will generate greater interest in investment in UK creative industries.

"The duke sees this as a tremendous opportunity to build on the momentum of British success in TV, film and video games."
