Since China and the United States agreed to build a new type of major power relationship in June, military ties have been enhanced.
Visits
Aug 16: Chinese Defense Minister, Chang Wanquan visited the Untied States.
Feb 21: US Army Chief of Staff Ray Odierno visited Beijing and met with Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
Joint military exercises
Aug 24-25: The Chinese and US navies conducted a joint counterpiracy exercise in the Gulf of Aden.
Sept 9: The Chinese and US navies held a joint maritime search-and-rescue exercise in waters near Hawaii.
Nov 12: Chinese and US troops began a three-day joint humanitarian aid and disaster-relief exercise in Hawaii.
Feb 11: China, for the first time, sent troops to participate in the multilateral military exercise Cobra Gold, led by the United States and Thailand.
Later this year, China will join the US-led Rim of the Pacific military drill, choosing to operate under the Australian Command in the world's largest international maritime warfare exercise involving 20 nations. A China-US joint medical rescue operations will be carried out on land after the drill.
