Ex-senior official tried for graft
A former senior official from Liaoning province stood trial on charges of bribery at a court in Harbin, Heilongjiang province, on Monday. Su Hongzhang, formerly a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Liaoning Provincial Committee and head of the provincial committee's Commission for Political and Legal Affairs, was accused of accepting bribes worth more than 19.9 million yuan ($2.9 million) from 2004 to 2016 when he held several posts in Liaoning, according to the Harbin Intermediate People's Court. Su pleaded guilty in court. A verdict will be issued at a later date.

14 held over fatal collapse at plant
Fourteen people have been held in police custody for their roles in a power plant construction site accident in Guangzhou that killed nine workers and injured two others on Saturday, according to a news conference held by the local government on Monday. The accident occurred at about 8 am at Guangzhou No 7 Thermal Power Plant when an operation platform collapsed.

Landslide hits building, kills 4
Four people were killed after a landslide hit a building in Panxian county on Sunday, according to the local government. The landslide occurred in Baga village at 1:20 am, burying five people. As of 5 pm on Sunday, all those trapped in the landslide had been pulled out, with one surviving. More than 300 police officers, firefighters and medical workers were mobilized for rescue efforts.

Water returns to dried-up lake
Water has reappeared in a lake that had been dried up for more than 50 years in Dunhuang, after the government spent billions of yuan on water conservation. More than 50 million cubic meters of water have been released from two upper-stream reservoirs to the Har Lake, according to the local water conservancy bureau. Once the largest freshwater lake in Dunhuang, the lake started to shrink as migrants moved inland to Dunhuang from as early as the 1720s.
