Chinese film wins top prize in Vesoul Int'l Film Festival

Chinese film "Addicted to Love" won three awards in the 17th Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema on Tuesday, including the highest Golden Cyclo Award.

The film, directed by Liu Hao, features a Chinese retiree, Old Pop, who lives in Beijing with his extended family. One day, he meets his first love accidentally. In spite of their children's reluctance, the two start meeting in secret. Discovering his first love has Alzheimer, Old Pop plays little games with her to exercise her mind.

Liu combined "prudence, tenderness and humor" in this film and established touching personalities, the jury of the festival said at the closing ceremony.

The film also won the Special Langues "O" Award by the French National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations and the Emile Guimet Award by the Friends Association of National Museum of Asian Arts-Guimet at the festival.

Uzbekistan director Elkin Tuychiev shared the Golden Cyclo Award with Liu Hao with his film "P.S."

The Golden Cyclo of Honor, the festival's reward of lifelong achievement was granted to South Korean director Kim Dong-ho, who founded the International Film Festival of Pusan.

The Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema is an annual special-interest film festival focusing on films from Asia. Created in 1995, the festival is held annually in Vesoul, France. It is regarded as the earliest film festival of Asian films in Europe.

Some 90 films from Asia hit the screens during the 17th edition of this festival, attracting 28,700 spectators.
