Komodo dragon picked as SEA games mascot

JAKARTA - Indonesia on Monday night launched mascot of Southeast Asia Games 2011 at the Beautiful Indonesia Miniature Garden in Jakarta, Seputar Indonesia daily reported on Tuesday.
The mascot is called 'Modo-Modi', the country's original animal of Komodo dragon, the world's largest lizard.
The launch was conducted 200 days before the event that would be held in the capital city of Jakarta and South Sumatra provincial capital city of Palembang.
"It is time now to unify intentions to be a good host for Southeast Asia guests. Indonesia can do that," said Minister for Youth and Sport Andi Alfian Malarangeng.
Head of Indonesia SEA Games Organizing Committee (INASOC) Rachmat Gobel said that it needs cooperation from all parties to succeed the event.
"Succeeding SEA Games is not only task for Minister for Youth and Sports, the Committee for National Sport and the INASOC, but it's our job," he said.
