MIAMI - Jamaica booked its spot in the Gold Cup quarterfinals Friday, while Honduras dealt Grenada a humiliating 7-1 defeat to put itself in a strong position to advance from Group B.
Demar Phillips scored two goals in 13 minutes of the second half to lift Jamaica to a 2-0 win over Guatemala and advance to the next round.
Later, Carlos Costly scored a hat trick and Jerry Bengston found the net twice in Honduras's comprehensive win over Grenada.
Phillips opened the scoring in the 65th minute when he gathered a Keammar Daley pass, dribbled toward the left side of the area, eluded defender Jonathan Lopez and beat goalkeeper Ricard Jerez with a shot that landed just inside the right post.
Jamaica clinched its second victory of the tournament when midfielder Philips, who plays for Norwegian club Aalesunds FK, scored his second goal in the 78th minute. Dane Richards dribbled toward the Guatemalan area and centered a pass to an unmarked Phillips near the box.
Guatemala played the final 20 minutes a man down after Cristian Noriega was shown his second yellow card.
With one group match remaining, Jamaica is two points clear of Honduras on six points, and five ahead of third placed Guatemala. The top-two in each group automatically advance to the final eight.
The third and final Group B matches will be played Monday when Honduras faces group leader Jamaica, while Grenada takes on Guatemala.
Clive Murray put Grenada ahead in the 19th minute Friday before Honduras scored three goals in 11 minutes.
Bengston equalized in the 26th minute and Costly put Honduras ahead two minutes later. Bengston's second goal made it 3-1 in the 37th minute.
Costly turned the match into a rout with goals in the 67th and 72nd minutes. Walter Martinez scored with two minutes remaining in regulation and Alfredo Mejia scored Honduras' final goal in stoppage time.
