Tens of thousands of Chinese citizens joined waves of demonstration in front of the Japanese Embassy in Beijing on Sept 18.

Police estimated 20,000 to 30,000 people gathered and walked along Beijing’s Liangmaqiao Road, where the embassy is located, as of 10:30 am.

Although Sept 18 marks the 81st anniversary of Japan’s invasion of Northeast China, demonstrations in Chinese cities have been taking place since the weekend, after the Japanese government announced its decision to “purchase” the Diaoyu Islands.
