PLA, US Army bands to play

Highlights of the PLA military band's US debut
First joint performance at 7:30 pm on May 16 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. Chief of the General Staff of the PLA Chen Bingde and Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Mike Mullen will attend.
Second joint performance on the evening of May 19 at the Performing Arts Center of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.
Third joint performance on the evening of May 21 at the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts in New York.
Performers and playbills will be the same in all three concerts. The Military Band of the PLA will perform Chinese traditional folk music (such as Return in Glory, A Lovely Rose, In A Faraway Fairyland and Victory's Around the Corner) while the Military Band of the US Army will play US symphonies (such as Cuba Overture and Glitter and Be Gay from the musical Candide). Then the two bands will conduct a joint performance.
Special concert on May 17 in the military camp of Fort Meyer. With an audience of US officers and soldiers, more dynamic programs will be provided, such as Handshake Across the Ocean and Moon River.
One-hour joint performance at 3 pm on May 20 at the United Nation Headquarters. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, ambassadors from China and the US and diplomatic envoys from various countries are likely to attend.
