BEIJING - China opposes the United States' sanctions against Chinese firms on the basis of its domestic laws, a foreign ministry spokeswoman said in Beijing on Thursday.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu made the remarks during a regular press briefing.

"China has all along opposed the United States' sanctions on Chinese companies according to its domestic laws, as this is not conducive to the two countries' cooperation in the non-proliferation area on the basis of equality and mutual respect," Jiang said.

According to media reports, the United States has announced that it is imposing sanctions against three Chinese companies and relevant individuals, which the US side accused of supplying Iran and Syria, among others, with goods or technology that may be used to create weapons of mass destruction.

"China has established an integral law system on non-proliferation export control," Jiang said.

"If any Chinese entity or individual is found to be engaged in illegal exports, we will punish them according to Chinese law," she added.
