MEXICO CITY - Remains of ten US soldiers were found more than 150 years later after they were killed in an 1846 battle in the northern Mexican city of Monterrey, archaeologists said Thursday.

"All the soldiers died in combat," said Araceli Rivera, an archaeologist with the Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) who is in charge of the excavation work that led to the discovery. Some of the corpses had fractures, he added.

According to historical documents, about 25 Mexican soldiers and 30 US soldiers died in a battle fought on September 21-23, 1846, in Monterrey.

Potteries, metals, glass and sea shells were also found along with the body remains.

INAH said it would send the remains and other discovered items to the Opispado Museum in Monterrey for further study.
