ZTE USA, the US arm of Chinese telecom company ZTE Corp, partnered with the Golden State Warriors to help raise funds for the Warriors' Hoops for Kids program by asking residents in the San Francisco Bay Area to donate their old mobile phones.
This is a second-time partnership since the Richardson, Texas-based company joined the Warriors Phone Drive in late 2014. The drive aims to support the Warriors Foundation's program that works with Bay Area nonprofits dedicated to helping underserved youth to live, learn and play.
From March 12-23, the Warriors encouraged their fans to donate used mobile phones at 16 participating stores. Those who donated devices had the chance to meet the Warriors' community ambassador Adonal Foyle, have a photo taken with Warriors coach Steve Kerr and get a free Warriors poster.
The company also offered a $10 discount for ZTE Avid Plus to those who donated old phones.
"We saw great success in our first phone drive and this year we expanded it by teaming up with a carrier partner so additional Bay Area residents could participate," said Lixin Cheng, chairman and CEO of ZTE USA, who also donated $2,500 to the Warriors Foundation.
He pledged that ZTE USA would continue to look for ways to have a greater impact on local communities and support the Warriors Community Foundation and their Hoops for Kids program to ensure funding in key areas such as education and sports and fitness for underserved children in the Bay Area.
"For a second year, ZTE's phone drive will help improve the quality of life for children in our area," said Jose Gordon, Warriors Community Foundation executive director. "We're grateful for ZTE's ongoing support and delighted that they share our vision of making a positive impact on our community."
