AUCKLAND, New Zealand - At least one person was believed dead and seven were injured after a freak tornado ripped through a shopping mall in the north of New Zealand's largest city of Auckland Tuesday.

Police and emergency services were responding to reports of a tornado that caused damage through the Auckland districts of Albany and Birkenhead.

Parts of the roof of the Albany Mall were damaged, said a police statement.
