Floods, whirlwinds kill 17 in North Vietnam

HANOI, Vietnam - The government says lightning, floods and whirlwinds have killed 17 people in northern Vietnam. Six others are missing and 64 have been injured in storms.

More than 2,600 homes were destroyed or damaged, and 57,000 acres (23,000 hectares) of rice paddy were inundated.
Vietnam is prone to floods and storms which kill hundreds of people a year.
